Supporting the UK’s National Data Repository

Overview

The Challenge

Moveout Data is a service provider to the UK Government’s North Sea Transition Authority (NSTA), formerly the UK’s Oil and Gas Authority, and is responsible for seismic data physical media handling activities associated with data flows into and out of the cloud-based National Data Repository (NDR).

What we did

Since the NDR became a cloud-based service in July 2021, Moveout manages all seismic data ingress to and egress on behalf of its users. This encompasses data conditioning, remastering as necessary and QC services to ensure that all data is fully compliant with NSTA requirements before it is accepted. This includes re-processing and merging survey navigation data and rigorous QC to ensure that the data is fit for use in modern processing and data analytics.

Through its service provision to the NDR, Moveout Data contributes directly in supporting the NSTA in achieving its regulatory goals:

To provide global access to unique and irreplaceable geophysical information for the traditional and net-zero energy sectors

To ensure all relevant retention and reporting obligations are discharged by data owners

To conserve legacy seismic exploration data and ensure its maximum value is extracted

“Moveout plays an important role in the North Sea Transition Authority’s National Data Repository service. We’re taking that very opportunity to condition legacy datasets as we migrate SEG-D from the tape archive to Nav Merged SEG-Y, hosted securely in the cloud, online, accessible and reusable. Moveout’s technology, deep subject knowledge and skills are the enablers.”
